Every year around December there is a fair that takes place just a few blocks from my house ... its one of my favorite ones as i have grown up attending the fair every year without fail ( as i have i lived in bangalore all my life !!) In kannada a local fair is called jatre . Well i think its a wonderful event where all the local community people come out for a relaxed evening in the old style village style fair in the heart of a metropolitan and moder city like bangalore . Its quintessential India and the making of a perfect portrait picture which shows no matter how we have evolved as a country we still love our roots . I am kind of old styled and things like this give me a lot of joy and a even to this day make it a point to attend it every year with my parents .
These jatres are filled with things such as a game of bursting a balloon with a gun ( how many of us have not played that one at some or the other time in life !! well i think its the age old way of taking your frustration i guess shoot the boss !!! ) and one of the most famous components of the fair is the steamed peanuts ( love them on a cold even ) there are other things such as people selling flutes ,earrings ,bangles and all kinds of stuff . But my two most favorite things are earthen piggy banks ( had bought my first piggy banks in one these fairs and it was my first savings account i guess still treasure it even though today i am earning and have a savings account in a big bank nothing can beat that feeling of my first piggy bank ) and a flashy robots which tells your future , after many years i actually went got my future predicted by a robot ( 10 rs and a flick of a switch my fate was sealed by a pre recorded tape :) . i think its one day of the year that takes me back to my childhood , hoping for many trips back to my childhood in the years to come . cheers for the week !!!
